More than ten volcanoes of Jingpohu Holocene Volcanic Group consist of five small eruption centers situated at southwest area and northeast area separately. Southwest area includes four eruption centers, namely “Crater Forest”, “Daganpao”, “Wudaogou” and “Mihunzhen”, respectively. Northeast area has only one eruption center called “Hamatang”. Eruptive materials include mainly lava flow, splash deposit and airfall deposit. Volcanic cone consists of cinder, bomb, driblet and thin lava flow. The thickness of a

The Quaternary volcanism in Ma anling area, northern Hainan Province is characterized by multi-periodic activity. Based on several factors, such as the active manner of the volcano, volcanic morphology, weathering degree, volcanic eruptive cumulus deposition, sedimentary stratigraphy, mutual superimposition relation between the volcanic apparatus, and isotope age, the Quaternary volcanic activity in Ma anling area can be divided into Deyiling stage of mid-Pleistocene age, Daotang and Yanghua stages of late

The Holocene volcanoes in the northern Hainan Island can be divided into 4 systems. These 4 systems include Maanling plateau volcanic system in the northwest part, Leihuling shield volcanic system in the southeast, Haochang monogenic volcanic system in between, and the NW-trending fissure eruption system. The Maanling plateau volcanoes consist of 4 cones and the related lava flows that flow to the northwest, southwest, and northeast, respectively. The Leihuling volcanoes are composed also of cones and lava

Mantle-derived xenoliths of various sizes are abundant in Tertiary basalts of Northern Hainan Island, but no mantle xenolith has been found in Quaternary basalts of this region. Microstructural observation on 140 thin sections cut from Quaternary basalt samples reveals that the naturally oxidized large olivine grains exhibit well-developed dislocation sub-structures. In addition, the polycrystalline micro-fragments consisting of olivine and pyroxene grains are characterized by textures typical of mantle xen

The results of detailed investigation on the chemical and isotopic compositions of subsurface fluids in Northern Hainan Quaternary volcanic region indicate that the Maanling and Leihuling volcanoes would be the dormant volcanoes, and great attention should be continuously paid to them. Near the Maanling crater the sodium content of underground water is anomalously higher, and also the releasing activity of deep-seated CO 2 is visible. Moreover, the determined results of hydrogen and oxygen isotopic compo

Tibetan Plateau is an important area with distinctive features in China, and has long been an attractive place for the investigation of geodynamics and geological evolution. The Mesozoic-Cenozoic volcanic activities in this region were controlled by deep geophysic-chemical reactions, and were the manifestation and result of the interaction of multiple factors. In this area, there are both potassic (dominant) and sodic volcanic rocks (secondary); and there are also eruptive lavas (dominant), and some subvolc

We have investigated the Xigaze ophiolites (Tibet) in the Yarlung Zangbo ophiolite belt (Tibet), SW China, by using noble gases isotopic compositions. The rocks investigated in this paper include serpentinized peridotites, basalts and dolerites. The 3He/ ? 4He ratios in these basalts are similar, having an average value of 5.36R a, and the He contents closely resemble each other. Two exceptions are basalt samples from Dagzhuka, with 3He/ ? 4He ratios that are lower than atmospheric value

The layer at the bottom of the middle Triassic Manghuai Formation in the western Yunnan, has long been considered as normal sandy gravel of basal conglomerate characteristics. However, recent field investigation and comparative study in Yakou region have discovered that this layer is in fact composed of a series of pyroclastic rocks. This layer can be assigned to a series of collision type K-rich dacite—kaliliparite and lava, which contain angular granitic agglomerates and rubbles of different sizes. The ch

Porphyry copper deposits are the result of the evolution of granitic magmatism-hydrothermal system (including volcanism) in island arc and on active continent margin, and occur mainly on the upper side of convergent plates. On the basis of the relationship of porphyry copper deposits with penecontemporaneous continental volcanic rocks, porphyry copper deposits may be divided into 2 types: 1) porphyry copper deposits associated with pre-ore or syn-ore continental volcanic rocks, such as the Yinshan deposit i

Since 1991, China and Spain have built together two observation stations at Cueva and Timanfaga in the volcanic active region of Lanzarote Island, and carried out the dynamic monitoring and observation of crustal deformation and geothermal flow. The long period stability of 29 sets observation instruments developed cooperative

These selected events mainly occurred in cluster. The relations between the activities of volcanic earthquake clusters and the locations of magma chambers are analyzed on the basis of space-time-magnitude distributions of earthquake clusters, seismic wave characteristics, focal parameters and focal mechanisms.
