Abstract: Abstract: The Ryukyu-Manila Trench belongs to the subduction zone of the western Pacific plate, and the Japan 3.11 earthquake is located in the subduction zone of the western Pacific plate, so whether the two have the same tectonic background and conditions as the 3.11 earthquake is to assess whether the Ryukyu Trench and the Manila Trench have the same occurrence A key factor in the potential for a magnitude 9 earthquake. Based on the analysis of a large amount of data, this paper evaluates the structural background, segmentation characteristics and maximum potential seismic capacity of the Ryukyu Trench and Manila Trench. It is believed that the Ryukyu Trench belongs to the trench-island arc-back-arc basin subduction structure system. The trench is receding eastward, showing weak coupling characteristics. It can be divided into 6 rupture sections structurally, and the maximum potential earthquake is 8.5; the Manila trench is affected by the “slab window” in the subduction plate formed by the paleo-expansion ridge. It is much smaller than the scale of the subduction zone where earthquakes of magnitude 9 or above have occurred. It is structurally divided into 6 rupture sections, with the largest potential earthquake of magnitude 8.8. Therefore, these two trenches basically do not have the tectonic background conditions similar to the 3.11 earthquake in Japan.
